This weekend was the first in a long time that, from Friday night to now, I took off work. Not a single word was written toward my word count, not a page edited, nor an ounce of study was done, either.
Instead, I enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Dinner with my parents and siblings families on Friday night turned out to be a fabulous evening enjoyed by all. Delicious food, a few drinks and great conversation was topped off with rain upon a tin roof. I love that sound! And, nothing beats the smell of damp earth and eucalyptus, almost as delicious as the chocolate cake and cheesecake we indulged in for dessert.
Saturday was a day of organising…who knew Spring cleaning in Autumn could be just as refreshing! The rain continued to fall and the first storm for Autumn brewed. It didn’t last long, but it was enough to stir up a mess, as gravel and leaves were washed down driveways and onto the road. Happy to say not mine, so I wasn’t outdoors today having to clean up, as so many others in the area.
A friends birthday is always a great reason to celebrate, so yesterday afternoon I embraced the storm and cooked up a feast. More eating, drinking and laughs to be had until early hours of Sunday morning…I couldn’t think of a better way to spend my Saturday night than with a great friend, and eight beautiful children.
Sunday was an early start. This was probably the most unpleasant part of the weekend, being the night owl that I am. When woken by my delightful three year old niece, at the early hour of six in the morning, how could I not smile. Cute dimples dent her cheeks and her face lights up at the smallest things, making me melt into a pliable mold she knows how to shape into exactly what she wants.
“Cubbles, Nae,” (translation ~ “cuddles, Renee”) is all it takes and I’m a goner. Her contagious and gentle nature outshines her cuteness…the combination together is a lethal weapon and possess all the right ingredients to have me panda to her every request. I love spending time with her and am lucky that my brother and sister-in-law (whom I don’t think of as an in-law, but a true sister) include me in my nieces life.
As much as I love my work nothing comes close to the love I have for my family and friends. This weekend was exactly what I needed.
A meditation session this afternoon was the perfect end to an awesome weekend and has left me feeling revitalised and raring to go!
Hope your weekend was fabulous, too!
